Thailand's largest island is also its most popular tourist destination, drawing visitors from around the globe with its pristine beaches, lively nightlife and luxury resorts. Water sports and spas are big business here but there are also lots of family attractions and shows.
Patong is Phuket's busiest resort and where you'll find its most happening nightlife while the pretty neighbouring beaches of Karon and Kata receive their fair share of crowds. Yet there are a number of secluded resorts where you can get away from all the development if tranquillity is top of your list. Phuket Town, meanwhile, has held on to its heritage and is the best place to taste authentic Thai cuisine at knock-down prices.
Phuket International Airport receives regular flights from Bangkok, the main gateway to the country, as well as limited region flights and charters.
